All of our animals were once beloved pets and for one reason or another they have ended up in our care. Why are we needed?

We are needed because there is no other place for these animals to go to.  A lot of the animals who come in are rehomeable, but there are a large number who will stay with us for the rest of their lives, either because they have conditions/illnesses that need treatment for life, or they have behaviourable problems that can never be cured, or they are simply too old or too ugly(!) to be rehomed.

Last January two mares were dumped on a golf course in Cardiff, there was nowhere for them to go, all the rescues were full up and they needed to be moved, we took them in.  They wouldn't let us near them for weeks.  In May one of the mares had a foal, and it was a waiting game to see if the other one was pregnant, luckily she wasn't, but now we have an extra mouth to feed, he needed to be microchipped and registered, he will need to be gelded in the next few months, and broken in when he is four when we may be able to loan him out.  Until then we will need to feed him, get his hooves trimmed and spend lots of time bringing him up. (He is gorgeous though!)  If we weren't here where would these ponies have ended up?
